Croque-monsieur

 

Ingredients (serves 4) : 8 slices of gluten free bread, 4 slices of cooked ham, 250 gr of Gruyèr cheese.

Ingredients for the béchamel sauce: 25 gr of butter, 25 gr gluten free flour, 250 ml milk.

 

For the béchamel sauce melt the butter in a pan over a low heat.

Add the flour away from heat stirring for 2 minutes. Once everything is mixed place again the pan over the heat and pour slowly the milk. Add salt and nutmeg ,whisking constantly until the sauce is thickened.

Your béchamel sauce is now ready!

Now it's time to assemble the croque monsieur. Place 4 bread slices on a baking sheet and spread each with one spoon of béchamel sauce. Add a slice of ham to each and sprinkle with the gruyèr cheese. Top with another piece of bread, spread some more bechamel sauce on the top of the slice, and sprinkle with the remaining gruyèr cheese.

Preheat the oven to 200° for 5 minutes and bake for 5 minutes until until cheese is brown and bubbling.

 

 

 

Mini Croque-monsieur with ricotta cheese

 

For the mini croque-monsieur simply cut the bread slices using a pastry cutter with a diameter of 5 cm and spread with ricotta cheese instead of béchamel sauce.
